Busch Entertainment Group Presents
Class Five Chaos
There is a lot freakin information contained on this web page so please read carefully. I think all the information that you will need to know for our rafting weekend is on this page. Do you have to read the whole thing? No, this is America. But you do have to read the whole thing if you don't want to be clueless!!! However I did make it easy for you and put links so you can jump between topics as you need to search for answers. There are several links throughout the document that link to web pages. If you have problems opening the hyperlinks, you might want to turn off any and all pop-up blockers.

(well I don't know about the dreams part)

First I will tell you the campsite is not the easiest to find so pay close attention or you might miss something!! YOU WILL NEED TO PRINT THE DIRECTIONS OUT AND BRING THEM WITH YOU --- AGAIN THE PLACE IS NOT EASY TO FIND. Also cell phones do NOT work up there at the campsite, so don't think you will get on the road and call me for directions. A'int happenin'!!!
The name of the campground is technically Royal Gorge Park, but you won't see a sign to it, unless something has changed; which is why you need to pay attention to the directions below. The campsite is first come first serve. This is why I am getting there early on Friday to grab the spots. There are NO RV hookups in these campgrounds. There is NO running water, but there are bathrooms that are fairly decent and they are close to the main campsite. Each campsite has a fire pit and some, including the main site, have covered picnic tables.
Google Earth: I have made a Google Earth (GE) file that will aid and navigate you to the campsite from Hwy 50. If you do not have GE and want to download (it is very cool program) click on button below. You will still need to follow the directions below on how to get to Cañon City. You don't have to download GE, but it will help you visualize where you are going.
o After you have downloaded GE, download the GE file necessary to view the campsite.
The other Google way: Also using Google, I have mapped driving directions to the campsite. It does get a little dicey once you get off of hwy 50. The biggest thing you need to know once you turn onto 3A (Royal Gorge Rd) is just after Buckskin Joe's is a dirt road that veers to the left, you will take that road. I will have a sign marking this road that is reflective at night. I will have other signs along the way leading you to the campsite. If you get to the main entrance to the Royal Gorge Bridge, you have gone too far.
First I will start by telling you what I have. And I have a lot of stuff so don't make fun. Keep in mind we will have close to 80 if not more folks out there. And yes I have a lot of things that use propane, let the Hank Hill comments start now.
Now for a list of things you will need to bring or share with others:
Things we will need as a group: (If you are willing to volunteer to bring some of these things, email me and let me know.)
If you got it, you can bring it. In other words, you don't have to go crazy and feel like you need to buy all this stuff. If you have any of these items and are bringing them, email me and let me know so I can help manage.
A lot of what you bring to wear obviously depends on the weather. I am sure you know this already. Two years ago it was pretty warm. So as such, I would be prepared to bring your summer clothes for the day, but bring some jeans/long pants and a jacket for the evening. It probably won't be that cool in the evening, but you never know. I mean, we're in the Rockies!!

Rafting day you will probably want to wear a bathing suit. Guys, no Speedos please. J You will have to wear shoes of some kind. This can include an old pair of sneakers, water shoes, Teva type sandals, or scuba booties which you can rent. NO FLIP FLOPS or bare feet. You might also want to wear a cheap pair of sunglasses. Ones you don't care about losing.
Bring your sunscreen and wear it!! You don't want Mr. or Mrs. Melanoma to come visiting do you?
Food --> Besides the after rafting BBQ, you are on your own. I highly recommend teaming up with some people to split food cost and prepare larger meals. I have a grill you can cook on, stove, and an oven as well. Also the fire pits have grills, but I would bring foil to put over them.
Some good ideas for camping food:
Hey, hey careful man there's a beverage here!!!
Beverages --> Again besides the BBQ you are on your own here. The one rule at this and most campsites are NO GLASS BOTTLES!!! So if you insist on bringing your crazy micro-brew from who knows where, then pour it in a cup, but leave the glass bottles in your car!!!! I can't emphasize this enough. If a bottle breaks and I cut my foot… :-X This goes for glass bottles of alcohol or MD 20/20 as well.
I have a very large cooler that I am bringing, so if you want bring your suitcase of beer and throw it in there that is fine by me. The only thing is I can't guarantee that somebody else might not help themselves. If you are stingy with your beer, then you might want to bring your own cooler.
Carpooling --> Not sure if you noticed or not, but gas is kind of expensive, and people are broke these days because of it. So I encourage you all to carpool as much as possible. Not to mention you will make Al Gore happy by saving the environment or something. So even if you are rich and can afford the gas, maybe I can guilt you into carpooling. The last reason you should carpool is because parking will be limited at the campsite.
To find a carpool, go to the
evite page and click on
>Go to carpool page. Enter your information and it can be viewed by
others on the evite and allows you to invite passengers if you are a driver or
get invited if you are a passenger. You can also change your reply and check on
the box 'I'm interested in carpooling.' If you are driving and have room for a
couple of more folks and want to share some of that gas expense, you will also
want to enter your information on the carpool page. If you are driver, remember
to go back to carpool page and invite those who want to carpool. Go here for
more information on evite's carpooling feature![]()
Caravanning --> If you want to find a caravan, you can use the same carpooling page as above. In the last name field, enter '(caravan:time)' after your last name where 'time' is the approximate time you will be leaving Denver on Friday. If you want to lead a caravan, list yourself as a driver, if you are looking for a caravan, list yourself as a passenger, I think you can handle it from there.
I will just go ahead and tell you that my caravan is leaving Friday morning at 8:00 am.
If you want to join my caravan:
Canon City is a decent sized mountain town. There is a Super Wal-Mart and a couple of Grocery stores. It has plenty of places to eat, and even an internet cafe. So if you want to wait to get some of your supplies here such as groceries, you should be okay. It is about 10 miles or so from where we are camping, which equates to about a 20 minute drive when you factor in dirt roads and such.
Interesting note about Canon City, there is large prison (Colorado Territorial Correctional Facility) right there in the middle of town. As you pass the prison, along the cliff face you will see an old guard tower that is pretty old. The prison was originally constructed in 1871. There have been many prison breaks from this facility, so be careful who you pick up. ;)
1. Bring cash money for tipping. And no, tipping is not a city in China. When you see these rafting guides you will understand better why they need your tips. They look a lot like the homeless folks along Speer Blvd only they smell slightly worse. I keed, I keed... Seriously though, a good amount to tip is $10/person or $100 if they save your life, maybe more depending on whether you received mouth 2 mouth. Even then it would depend on good they were... Again I keed.
2. NO glass bottles at the campsite!!!
3. ALL fires must be put out before going to bed.
4. Everybody must help in cleaning up and keeping the campsite clean. Even if it is not your mess, clean it up. If it is your mess, clean it up. There will 80 people out there; I don't want to spend half of Sunday cleaning up everything myself. And yes, it has happened before where 3 or 4 stay behind and clean up because everybody got up early and did not stay to help clean.
5. Just in case you were not aware, there are animals in the wild. As it turns out, they kinda like people food better than their nuts and berries and such. You may also not be aware that people food is not good for animals, and sometimes animals liking people food is not good for people either. Case in point 'The Bear'. Once bear's taste people food, they will do just about anything to get to it. The end result is usually the bear is put down because that bear becomes a danger to people. So the point here is clean up your food, once you are done eating, put it back in your car. DO NOT leave food out on the picnic tables. This will help prevent any unwanted visitors from the animal kingdom.
6. Again, cell phones do not work at the campsite, so do not call for directions if the person you are calling is already at the campsite.
7. Absolutely NO alcohol is allowed on the boats. You are NOT floating down the Guadalupe or the Ozarks where you have a cooler tube behind you. These are class four and five rapids people!! Pretty intense, gotta pay attention. Believe me, there will be plenty of time for drinking when we get done.
8. The parking will be tight at the campsite. Please park in the designated parking areas and park side by side so as to conserve space. This will also be set up this way to maximize space for the tents.
9. This will be a large group and most have not met each other, so please mingle and meet others. We all know what happens when we get some alcohol in us; so act like adults and we will all get along and have a good time. I will be in charge, so if you have problems with an individual, please come to me. There has never been an incident in all the years I have been doing this, but we have come close. If you like to be offensive and push peoples buttons, leave that behavior at home. I will not hesitate to ask someone to leave.
The question Password --> Eddie
If you have any questions, please reference this word so I know you read this whole freakin web page. J Also you will get bonus points if you can tell me what an 'Eddie' is in rafting terminology. Please email getwet(at)classfivechaos.com.
